In order to continue to make Ilupeju a safe haven for law-abiding citizens, the Area Commander, Area F, Lagos State Police Command, ACP Bayo Sulaiman, has urged individual stakeholders and corporate organisations in the area to support the Nigeria Police, Ilupeju Division under the able leadership of SP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye. He made this note during his working visit to the Division on Thursday.
The stakeholders who attended the parley, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report, included the former Special Adviser to the Governor on Traditional Matters, Hon. Bayo Osiyemi, Vice Chairman of Odi-Olowo LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande, LCDA Councillors, the PCRC Chairman in Ilupeju, Chief Sylva, the CDC representative, Pastor Olasupo Michael, the Indian community represented by the President of the Bhoypuri Pariwar Global Foundation, Mr. Shanti Bhooshan Singh, Chief Security Officers (CSO) of companies, officers of Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), among others. The men of Ilupeju Police division were also present led by their DPO, SP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye and the DCO, DSP Tajudeen Yusuf.
After the interactive session community stakeholders, the Area Commander alongside the DPO visited the wife of late Governor of Lagos State, Alh. Lateef Jakande, Alhaja Abimbola Jakande while the Indian community also promised to donate and lit the Nestle basketball court and its environs with Five (5) solar streetlights to improve the security in the area.
Addressing the stakeholders, the Area Commander, Area F, ACP Sulaiman brought the greetings of the Lagos CP Idown Owohunwa and continued: ‘I am here to interact and get feedback from members of the public. We crave your continued support of this safe haven for all law-abiding citizens of this community. On our part, we pledge unalloyed cooperation of Nigeria Police to the Nigerian nation. You can be assured of training and retraining of our personnel for crime detection and community engagement. I cease this opportunity to express our gratitude to our Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the moral and material support we have enjoyed. I would also appreciate the invaluable contribution of our amiable, dynamic IGP Kayode Egbetokun who during the short time of appointment have helped the Police for better policing of Nigeria.’
In his response to some requests made by the stakeholders, the gallant Commander revealed: ‘For several years, the Lagos State Government and LGAs have been supporting in funding the Police, we thank God for them and I use this opportunity to speak to the Chairman represented by the Vice-Chairman not be tired and to see the security of the LGA as no. 1 on their programme. Without security, nothing can be done. You can use your position to talk to the Senator and House of Representative members in this area. The community must take interest in the police, the fueling of their vehicle among others, those are things that give room for corruption. Their one vehicle can’t be enough, if you call them and they have been to one incident, you will think that they don’t want to come. I appeal to stakeholders, companies can team up to achieve this.’
‘On the child adoption issue, some people came to my office believing that Ilupeju Police station is not doing anything but I know what the police station is doing going from one state to another to make arrests. There are things that we want people to recognize, it is not everytime that you blackmail the police. Where we are doing good, we should be praised. We want encouragement, let people know what we are doing’, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.
In her brief remarks, the DPO of Ilupeju Division, SP Matilda Ngbaronye noted ‘we are very happy that you took out time to visit us. Your antecedent speak for you. You have worked in many areas. We are very happy to work under you and to tap from your tutelage.’
During the interactive session, the immediate past Special Adviser to the Governor on Traditional Matters, Hon. Bayo Osiyemi said: ‘My association with this police station started 45 years ago in 1978 when Alh. Abdullahi Kaltungo was DPO before he retired as AIG. Several other officers have also served in this police station and I am proud to be associated with all of them including this PDO. When SP Matilda was posted here, I was hoping and praying that she will make a difference as a woman and indeed she has made a difference. When you look at the aesthetics of this police station, one will see a big difference. I expect the Area Commander to move to the DCP and to CP. I want you to look at the condition of police stations under your command with the exception of Ilupeju. You won’t notice a difference between Jankara market and a police station.’
Also, the Vice Chairman of Odi-Olowo LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande representing the Chairman, Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala remarked: ‘I commend the CSO of Ilupeju, SP Matilda that you have been able to keep us safe. You have tried in keeping security in this area. No woman, no nation.’
The representative of the Community Development Committee, Pastor Olasupo Michael noted the need of patrol vehicle in Ilupeju. ‘Ilupeju Police Station is in need of vehicles. Please, Area Commander implement it. It is when they have more vehicles that they can spread themselves in cases of emergency.’
The PCRC Chairman in Ilupeju, Chief Sylva added: ‘Our DPO deserves to go higher. She has been working hard. We thank all our companies that has been supporting Ilupeju Police station. We celebrate Ilupeju police station, please support them.’
